Meniscus Knee Surgery Responds Well to Stem Cell Therapy



knee injectionScienceDaily (2014-01-16)—A single injection of mesenchymal stem cells after undergoing meniscus knee surgery may relieve pain and assist in the regrowth of the meniscus in some patients, according to a study in the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. This study represents the first time high doses of mesenchymal stem cells have been administered to a knee joint without development of abnormal tissue. Thirty percent of the patients who were given either a high or low dose of the stem cells experienced some increase in meniscal volume at one year. Read more
