Why Women Experience More Knee Injuries Than Men

women's kneeScienceDaily (2016-03-18)—A research team has suggested that one reason women experience more knee injuries than men is because of the impact of birth control pills on estrogen. The study, which appears in the journal Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, was prompted by previous findings showing that more anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries occur in women when their estrogen levels are elevated. The current study results indicate that use of birth control pills, which help keep estrogen levels lower and more balanced, may protect against serious ACL injuries. Read more
