ACL Injuries Epidemic among Young Female AthletesScienceDaily (2014-04-30)—The number of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries among young female athletes is reaching epidemic proportions, according to a Loyola University Medical Center report. This increase is partly due to the rising number of females who play sports such as basketball and soccer, which place a great deal of stress on the knees. According to Dr. Pietro Tonino, an orthopaedic surgeon and director of Sports Medicine at Loyola, “Many of these injuries could be prevented with a simple warm-up program that can be done in minutes.” Read more
