ScienceDaily (2014-01-22)—Among women who underwent hip or knee replacement surgery, the need for a repeat procedure was reduced by about 40 percent when they took hormone replacement therapy (HRT) regularly for six months. Analysis of data from more than 10,000 women, both HRT users and non-users, showed that those who had taken the hormone replacement therapy as prescribed for six months or longer after their hip or knee replacement surgery were 38 percent less likely to need a repeat surgery. Such surgery is mainly necessary when particles from the implanted hip or knee seep into the surrounding tissue, resulting in destruction of the bone surrounding the implant. Read more
